I just watched the SPN ep "You Can't Handle the Truth" and have 14 minutes to write something for my Nanowrimo and actually technically write something TODAY.
As far as a truth episode went, this episode was fail. Because when Sam WAS finally forced to tell the truth (maybe? Possibly?) it was sad and sweet, but I'm not sure that I believed him.
And Dean...his life is messed up. It's horrible. It's been to hell in a handbasket and was shipped back by UPS because it didn't have enough postage, THAT is how much his life sucks. BUT I still watch him and think, "Dean, please stop being so whiny, other people (SAM) have problems too." I had this same issue in S4. Dean had completely justified misery, but the way he talks about it I just want to smack him and tell him to Deal.
Possibly one of my favorite lines in the episode: "I'm sitting this way so you look at my breasts. I just bought them and they need lost of attention."
I also very much like that Bobby doesn't actually have anything horrible to say. YOU ROCK AND ARE A DECENT HUMAN BEING, BOBBY SINGER.
And now I have 9 minutes to write something for Nano and still have it technically count for today. *sigh* Shane, hope you have something interesting to say.

I think it's less that Dean talks about it so much and more that only Dean talks about his problems. The most recent emotional scenes have all been centered around Dean. And like you said, Dean's life sucks - god, does it - and he has lost so much and paid such a huge price for the path his life has taken. But when the show barely acknowledges Sam's issues - or makes them all about Dean and how they hurt Dean - then we get tired of hearing about Dean. A little balance would do so much good, writers.
I'm not sure that I believed him.
I'm not sure what the show is trying to say here. Sam can't feel anything (it does seem to fit) but some of his reactions are . . . well, not full of emotion, but there is emotion behind them.

It's still definitely the Dean Show. All about Dean dealing with his not-brother, not a hint of WHERE SAM IS IF HE'S NOT WITH DEAN. I'm still waiting for a damn thank-you for saving the motherfucking world. I'd really like one once the real Sam gets back.
