Welcome to my journal! This is an odd mix of fanfiction (mainly for Supernatural), original fiction, and life commentary. I try to be interesting, bouncy, and not too crazy. Below is my master list of fic, which will hopefully become fatter soon.

Enjoy!

Dean goes in his sleep, and Sam has to go on as best he can.
Beta Thanks!:
[info]lavinialavender read this over but final proofing was mine. Be warned!
Author notes:
This is a timestamp for Hell Shall Not Wash Us Away. You can probably read it by itself, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Can you say freakin’ depressing…

A week after Dean died, Sam called Ben... )

Title: Hell Shall Not Wash Us Away
Disclaimer: I don’t own the boys. But I sure like messing them up…
Characters: Sam, Dean, Castiel
Rating:
PG-13 (for language)
Word count: ~

Beta Thanks:
Yay [info]lavinialavender! Hugs her. She valiantly slaughtered hordes of grammar fail. What remains is still my fault.
Summary: The problem with permanent damage to the soul is that death does nothing to fix it. The first thing Sam sees when he gets to Heaven is Dean. The second is the wall...
Author Note #1: Now with TIMESTAMP: The Call.
Author Note #2: This is only my second comment!meme fic, and way too fun. [info]de_nugis ’s lovely, complete prompt (containing fic spoilers) is here at:

Sam has been mildly afraid of death since they both visited Heaven... )

Title: Words in the Dark
Disclaimer: I neither own nor profit from SPN (or Merlin. This ‘verse is clearly some kind of hybrid, like a coydog).
Characters: Sam, Dean, John

Word count:

Spoilers:
none: preseries AU
Summary:
Sam reads every night in the chapel. It was Dean’s idea.
Author notes:
This is my third in a medieval AU series. It may not make much sense without reading Sir Dean vs the Griffin and Confessions first.
Yay Beta!: [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender betad. And then I changed things and she hasn’t seen it since. This is happening more often lately. And there are more typoes. THIS INVERSE EQUATION JUST MAKES SENSE.

Dean’s still proud—maybe just a little smug—that it was his idea... )

Summary:
Sam remembers a lot, actually. He just doesn’t remember how he got on the tree.
Author notes:
I actually have a lot to say, but that's why there are footnotes at the end. :) Yay, thank you to [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender for beta-ing! And then I went and changed things. All mistakes remain my own.

Sam isn’t sure how he got here. Nor is he quite sure why he’s still alive... )

Title: You Remember Being Dead
Disclaimer: If anyone owns anything in this relationship, Supernatural owns my heart.
Characters:
Samuel Campbell, mentions of everyone else
Warnings:
Samuel is a jerk, but he has his reasons. But it does mean he doesn't have very much family solidarity.
Rating:
PG-13
Word count:
450
Spoilers:
through about the middle of S6
Summary:
Samuel Campbell doesn't much like his grandsons, but then again, he's never met them.
Author notes:
[livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender also read this one, but I think I'm posting it before any actual beta-ing took place.  Be warned! The idea that Samuel Campbell really never met the Winchesters when they weren't completely messed up has been in my head since we found out what Sam's problem was. Granddad Campbell is not a nice man, but, much like John Winchester, he does have justification for the jerkface things he does...

You don’t know what’s harder to believe, that Mary married that pretty, clean-cut Winchester whelp or that he became a serious hunter after her death...And then you meet Sam. )

Title: The Language of Hell

mild mentions of torture in Hell
Rating:
PG-13
Word count:
316
Spoilers:
takes place in S4
Summary:
Dean always enjoyed his pop-culture, but he picked up different reference points in Hell.
Author notes:
[livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender read it, but didn't beta exactly...

It took Dean months to learn how to speak again... )

Title: Surcease From Pain

Characters:
Sam, Dean, Lucifer, Death
Warnings:
torture and sensory deprivation
Rating:
PG-13/R
Word count:
1262
Spoilers:
AU starting from S6.11: there is no Wall and this is not your canon Cage.
Summary:
Sam is, in the end, just a little soul, and for him it's just blackness.
Beta Thanks: Yay [info]lavinialavender ! (and [info]whereupon for reading). But I refuse to give them credit for remaining grammar mistakes. Those are MINE.
Author notes:
I wrote this for no greater reason than, when browsing the tags at [livejournal.com profile] ohsam , I got really sad that "touch starvation" had never been used (i wanted to read that fic!) so I wrote it  myself. If I keep not wanting to edit Freak Camp I may tackle "strangulation/hanging" next...
Random note: every time I think, say or write "this is not your canon Cage" I want there to be a canon cage match, SPN meets professional wrestling or something. And in THIS corner, your champion! Sammy-boy Winchester...

Sam felt it when his body went. At first he was just grateful.  )

Title: We All Sleep Alone

Warnings:

Rating:
PG (for language)
Word count:

Spoilers:
none, Stanford Era
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender read it, but then life ate her, so I did the final grammar check. Remaining fail is mine.
Summary:
You’ve got to be strong when you’re out on your own, but sooner or later we all sleep alone.
Author notes #2: Usually, I SWEAR, I don’t combine Cher and Supernatural in my head. The styles just don’t fit. But every time I hear this song I see the boys missing each other. Possibly it’s the closet Wincest fan in my that says they are always alone if they’re not with each other. This was eventually going to be an Apo-verse fic (for some reason, ANYTHING goes in the Apo-verse, possibly it’s the deer!Impala) and a version may be in that verse some day, but this just came out gen.
Author Note #2: Even as I post this, I don't think I quite nailed what I wanted to say, but I was sick of having it floating around, almost done, in Gdocs. Fic is fic, yeah?

Sooner or later we all sleep alone... )

Rating:
PG
Word count:

Summary:
Sam and Dean keep each other's secrets.
Author notes:
This whole medieval world spawned out of "Sir Dean vs. the Griffin". There's at least one more story in this 'verse rattling in my head.  [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender  read this story over, but then I changed things, so, as far as typos and forgotten verbs, proceed at own risk...

I am not always a careful, timely, detail-oriented or on-the-ball human being. [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender can tell you that I get distracted, and the best way to actually get me to do something (say, read excellent fanfic) is to gently remind OVER AND OVER again. Yes, nagging. Works really well.

To that end, I write myself lists. Hopefully I can get through everything in this post that I had written down. Life-and-Fandom Update!

--HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! Yes, this is hideously late, but I have the excellent excuse that I was in Japan. Yes, there were Internets in Japan, but also excellent Real Life folk to interact with and NOODLES so many noodles. I’m not a huge fan of seaweed or red bean paste, but friends (and speaking English, OMG, yay!) are always wonderful.

--FREAK CAMP ROCKS! And the first three Chapters are available here and getting a REALY awesome response. Lavinia and I knew that this story rocked (no false modesty here, man, especially as it’s currently my favorite romancy novel of all time, and I’m WRITING it, which seems wrong on some level) but it has ROCKED OUR WORLD to have other people agree and squee and generally be happy about our SPN AU monster.

--Because it’s so awesome, Freak Camp gets TWO notes, but it has also been NOMINATED for best AU and best darkfic at [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards . NOMINATED FOR AMAZING. I may die in delight. The only thing keeping me from death here is that if I go, Lavinia will probably die from the shock and sadness, and then Monster By Any Other Name will probably not get finished, and that would be hideously sad. Yay!

--Aaaaand, wrote another SPN fic in the Dee universe here at [livejournal.com profile] deewinchester . Though to say that I “wrote” it seems to imply that I cranked it out last night, when really it was hanging around in my “You’re almost done with this fic” pile, I added two paragraphs, sent it to Lavinia and am DONE. It’s good (though rather disturbingly hard) to write something that is not about Freak Camp.

--Though I have been writing original stuff! Like, today, Kev started getting more back story. Poor kid, I have a feeling that something horrible is going to happen by the end of this story I started scribbling today. Something more specifically horrible than the anticipated death of his mother and the realization that his father is a complete sociopath. Hmmm. Not sure what yet.

I’m currently in love with [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge ’s Trace story. I love his writing, loved the original story that this story is evolving out of (maybe kinda stole it and put it in Word documents on my computer. Maybe.). Love it.

Hmmm, this post got longer than expected, and spawned itself, and generally did crazy things. But that’s okay. I do tend to ramble. And that list is done! Off to another…

 Freak Camp! Freak Camp!

After months and months of writing (okay, about 3) and WEEKS of editing (about 3?) *laughs at self*, it has happened and [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender and I have finally begun to post the massive SPN novel that we have been writing.

The Prologue and Chapter One are currently up!

You should check it out because it's AWESOME.

Have I mentioned that Freak Camp is the ONLY THING that I've been writing for the last three months? Other than, say, fragments? And not only is it pretty awesome, but also nice to prove that I have actually been doing something.

OH MY GOSH THIS IS SO COOL.
brosedshield: (Default)
I have not been sleeping, and it is [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender's fault. We have started a massive SPN darkfic, heavily influenced by a mutually read romance novel. We have spent about eight scene/stories messing the hell out of Sam's head (he's growing up in a monster concentration camp) and are now trying to put him back together again. It keeps me up to 3:30 a.m., even when I have church to get up for at 6:30 (ended up being surprisingly functional: woot! coffee).

We thought about dividing the thing (tentatively called Freak Camp) according to characters, but I wanted to get in Sam's head, a LOT, but I'm better at the snarky Dean dialogue, so we abandoned that plan and are both just writing what we want. Lavinia gets the sex scenes by default, and I get the plot (I think this is because I want monsters, and monsters, drat them, require plot).

Part One was a Dream. It's planned, it's functional, it is going to give Sam and Dean issues that they aren't going to be able to fight their way out of easily without becoming stock fools (which we will not allow them to do). Part Two is being a thorny mess. We write things, and then they don't fit either with the plot or the emotional arc. I've moved a nightmare scenes six times, and I'm not convinced I deleted it every time. So if Sam keep having the same nightmare, it's my fault.

I'm very excited. As long as we can keep a similar enthusiasm going for a while longer, this may come together fairly quickly. Or at least the beginning could. Woot!

I was watching the middle of Disney's Mary Poppins today, and my overactive imagination decided that it had a perfectly logical explanation for why tall, cheerful Dick Van Dyke is a Victorian chimney sweep when my spotting understanding insists that the job was usually reserved for underprivileged children who thereafter died of lung ailments. The answer? Fairies. And in that vein...

Title:
The Dance of the Chimney Sweeps (Step In Time)
Fandom:
Mary Poppins (Disney) (which I neither own nor vend on street corners)
Characters/Pairing:
Bert/Mary Poppins
Rating:

Word count: 528
Spoilers:
smack dab in the middle of the movie. Okay, maybe sideways from smack dab, but around there
Summary:
Bert is more than he seems to the children, and wants to mean more to a certain governess
Author notes:
Un-beta'd, spur of the moment, and sketchily researched, enter at your own risk. That said, most of the inspiration for this story comes from Step in Time (YouTube clip here) and a few details about luck from Chim Chim Cher-ee (here). If this idea haunts me, I'll figure out exactly what is going on and probably rewrite it.

The Poppinses were not known for their kindness. Indeed, in the bad old days of King James they had been known more than once to throw other magickers to the dogs to throw the witchhunters off their own scent.

Under Queen Victoria, the overwhelming influence of iron and unmagical thought offered them a measure of protection. No one was looking for the magic that pumped through their veins, and oftentimes they could blend perfectly with the working and lower middle class around them. They were clerks, craftsmen, factory supervisors and their sons went to school and their daughters married poor parsons and worked as governesses.

One of greatest, most fearless, and—remarkably—kind was Mary…

So I said to my brain: “Brain! What would we like to write today?” And then I gave it a list.

1. Deanna fic—[livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender and I have a comm—[livejournal.com profile] deewinchester —devoted to our interpretation of girl!Dean, and how societal pressures could shape “Deanna” to basically become “Dean.” We rely heavily on the fact that women die a lot in SPN, and Dean(na) would do ANYTHING to protect their little brother.

2. S5 fic—because S6 starts tomorrow, and I’m not sure I want those influences cluttering up what I think now.

3. ORIGINAL fic—because Mirai needs to give her brother some hurt/comfort, Kev has to deal with a dragon, and Haylan has to survive his mother one more day.

4. Apo-verse works-in-progress

So what do I end up doing?

I end up writing a completely new Apo-verse fic. Because (my brain promised me) “It will be short!”

Thousand+ words later, I think we have to have a talk about our differing definitions of short (and while I’m at it, maybe I should talk to someone about this habit I have of talking to myself).

Hope you enjoy. I think this is just a sign that the Apo-verse is alive and well and breeding plot bunnies in my skull

Title: One More for the Road
Disclaimer: If anyone owns anything in this relationship, Supernatural owns my heart. And won't give it back. And won't pay me for it. (i.e. Don't own, don't profit) Though the AU twist is mine. If you want to jump in this crazy place with me, please do! There's plenty of room, the water's fine, and I enjoy company.
Characters:
Sam, John, Dean, deer!Impala
Warnings:
This AU is a strange place, built on a joke and spiraling out of control. If you can't handle a post-Apocalyptic world with mutant African deer, and a gleeful disregard for the stodgy rules of logic, turn back now!
Rating:
PG
Word count:
1525
Spoilers:
None, pre-series
Summary:
Just another town. Just another fight. Until it’s not.
Author notes #1:
This AU (I call it the Apo-verse) started as a joke, but somehow it got out of hand. The Impala is currently an African deer and the world in general is post-Apocalyptic (nukes, biological weapons, the end of broadcast television). Other stories in this world, posted and in the works include: “Live by the Sword”, "Two Men and an Impala" (currently a WIP), and "Dean vs. the Sex Traders" (also currently a WIP). Honestly, I’ve always wanted to write a “Sam leaves for Standford” fic, but never really thought I had anything valid to add. I’m still not sure I have anything to add, but it’s the Apo-verse, so anything goes.
Author note #2: Again, [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender has excellently beta’d this fic.

Sam knows the rhythm of their fights like he knows shotgun recoil and the sway of the Impala... )

Title: Live by the Sword
Disclaimer: If anyone owns anything in this relationship, Supernatural owns my heart. And won't give it back. And won't pay me for it. (i.e. Don't own, don't profit) Though the AU twist is mine. If you want to jump in this crazy place with me, please do! There's plenty of room, the water's fine, and I enjoy company.

Warnings:

Rating:
PG
Word count:
2375
Spoilers:
Ummm, if S1 existed, this would take place between episodes 1 and 4. Somewhere.
Summary:
After leaving Stanford, Sam and Dean find their rhythm again as brothers and family after an attack in the mountains.
Author notes #1:
This AU (I'm calling it the Apo-verse) started as a joke when I realize that an Impala, in addition to being one of the awesomest cars ever, is also an African deer. With my deep devotion to puns, I quickly set about creating a world that would justify Sam and Dean riding around on one. The result is an early, completely man-made Apocalypse (nukes, biological weapons, the end of television) which allows Sam and Dean to hunt everything they did originally and also have inherited a giant, mutant deer from their father. Somehow this got out of hand. The original story "Two Men and an Impala" (currently a WIP) is pure, funny crack, and the second "Dean vs. the Sex Traders" (also currently a WIP) started out funny, and got dark somewhere along the way. Then because I wanted to see Sam with a sword, this fic appeared and got finished first. It takes place first, chronologically, and I'm kind of in love.
Author note #2: Other Apo-verse stories are: "One More For the Road" (preseries)
Author note #2: Sometimes the beta process fixes a couple wrong words and I'm good to go. This time [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender made me so much better, the original draft will hopefully never see the light of day. You should thank her, profusely.

When heads need to come off, Dean’s an ax man... )

Title: His Father's Son
Disclaimer: If anyone owns anything in this relationship, Supernatural owns my heart. And won't give it back. And won't pay me for it. (i.e. Don't own, don't profit)
Characters:
Sam, Dean, John, Yellow-Eyed Demon
Warnings: major character death, suicide

Rating:
R
Word count:
364
Spoilers:
S1 finale, alternate ending
Summary:
AU of "Devil's Trap." Dean dies inside the cabin, and that changes everything.
Author notes:
So much in the Supernatural universe hangs on the delicate thread of true family linking the Winchester men. This fic explores the choices that might have been made when part of that web is de-anchored. [livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender  is my beta, though she didn't read it directly before I posted it, so there may be errors, and they are all mine.
Author note #2: I have fallen in love with parenthetical, italicized flashbacks. Absolute love. I may have written a story recently that didn't have them, but I don't remember it. And I fully admit that part of this love is they wouldn't have let me do that in undergrad. I'm pretty sure the profs would have given me the look, you know?
