Collapse of the pillars of SPN

I have a theory about SPN that all main character reactions (and everything that elicits a profound emotional response in me) can be boiled down to Four Pillars.

Love, Self Loathing, Obsession, Fate.

NONE OF THESE APPEAR IN THE S6 PREMIERE. And that is crushing.

The Zeroth Pillar is, of course, hotness, and that, thankfully, remains.

Dude. What episode did you watch? I can cite compelling evidence for at LEAST three out of four in that episode.

You know, now that I've been reading other people's commentary I can see the first three as well, but on my own? I did not process it. It's like I lack the enzymes or something to digest complex angst without additives in my diet. And for me those additives come from stuff like humor, pacing, cool monsters, explosions, shameless crack, obvious plot points. I mean, even most of S4 I didn't appreciate until most of the way through S5 when the character arcs started to get clearer for me.

So maybe the answer is that I saw the same episode, but got a fraction of the depth of it. I'm hoping that later on, when the ultimate confrontations roll around, I'll look back, and bounce and obsess and see how carefully everything was set up, and it will be BEAUTIFUL, but right now my experience of S6.1 is just flat. An expectant, hopeful flat, with good possibilities, but flat.
